Welcome to the most Important Post that I have created on the fitnesshealthandmind.com site. Without the goal setting steps that I am going to lay out for you here, attaining any of your dreams will be next to impossible.

GOAL SETTING

Without goal setting, it’s like going on a long journey in the car on holiday or vacation with out a road map. Just follow your nose and you’ll get there eventually. What if you are in the USA in the Great State of Maine and want to go to San Diego California. A heck of a long drive. You can do this two ways. The smart way or the HARD way. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather have the journey planned and written out so you know exactly were you are going.

Some people might like the adventure of just going Southwest until you hit water road map. If you are like that…Good Luck. But that’s not the way we do things here at fitnesshealthandmind. I’m gonna do it with building a road map and written directions on getting there in the quickest time.

By doing this, I will be able to know exactly where I am going, where I am at all times and even schedule in sight seeing stops along the way and smell some of the roses on my journey. So welcome to your LIFE ROAD MAP. You’re gonna be so glad that you trusted me on this. So how do I get started in drawing out my Goal Setting Road Map.

Here is where you start with GOAL SETTING.

I want you to remember this acronym.

S M A R T E R
Must be SPECIFIC

The first of the 7 MUSTS of Goal Setting is BE SPECIFIC. What do you want to achieve. What are your short term goals and how do they relate to achieving the ultimate goal. We need to write them down and take ownership of them. After all, these are your goals, and without your burning desire of purpose to achieve them, they become little more than just words.

Think of the 6 W’s when being specific..Who is involved, What do I want to accomplish, Where do I want to do it, When do I want to do it, Which, identify requirements and anything holding you back, and Why, specific reasons, benefits or purpose in achieving your goals.

Must be MEASURABLE

The second MUST is that your goal setting must be MEASURABLE. Some type of measurement needs to be put in place to measure whether you are meeting your objectives or not. To help determine whether your objectives are measurable, ask questions such as, How many, How much, How will I know when I have accomplished something.

Must be AGREED

The third MUST be Agreed upon, Attainable and/or Achievable. There is no use in shooting for the stars if you don’t have a plan of action to attain it. Step by step planned multi-tiered milestones will help you attain your ultimate goal and purpose in life. Think of it this way…With a reasonable amount of effort and constructive targeted application, can the objective be attained?

Must be REALISTIC

The fourth MUST, is that it must be Relevant and Realistic. When we write our goals out, each step along the way must be a building block for the next goal. It must add something to the attainment of your ultimate purpose. If it doesn’t, it is scrapped and something more relevant put into its place.

Can you realistically attain the objective with Picture image of goals checklistthe resources you have, or will you need to attain say further education to make it a realistic and relevant step toward its attainment.

Must be TIME-BOUND

The 5th Must is that your Goals be Time-Bound or tangible. There has to be a clear start and finish date attached to the objective. This is a lot like chunking big projects into smaller more manageable ones to make them easier to deal with. It’s a lot like that guy who ate an entire car. He did it a little bit at a time …obviously. Same thing here guys. Are there any competing demands that may get in the way of you reaching your targeted goal that may delay it’s finish date?

Must be ETHICAL

The 6th must is that your goal setting must be Ethical. This speaks for itself I think. Just remember through life, that you want to always place yourself in a WIN/WIN situation. It should never comprise your inherent principles in it’s attainment.

Must be RECORDED

The 7th and last MUST is that your Goals must be Recorded. Write it down and follow the steps exactly as you have planned it out. This will take a while to do, because a lot of thought must go into getting this all down on paper and committing and taking ownership of it. Know exactly where you are and what steps and plans of ACTION are needed to attain the other 6 principle laid out here.

In the next post, we are going to be talking about,VISION, BELIEF and ACTION. We need to ask deeper questions on why we want to achieve the goals we set forth. It’s not enough to just write it down,look at it and never do anything toward its attainment.

So in the meantime, start getting SMARTER with your Goal Setting! Print out the forms and start thinking of what you really want and what you are going to do and give for its attainment. We’re gonna light the fire under this model in the next post, so
